[BRLTTY] Misssing files in BRLTTY Ubuntu

Hello Chevelle,

Thanks for the reply. Here is the documentation for ‘brltty-setcaps’: https://brltty.app/doc/Linux.html#the-brltty-setcaps-script

I know that I have to do it with root privileges, but I cannot kill the running process, or I won’t be able to read what is happening (I can’t hear speech).

The command does not exist on my system:

$ command -v brltty-setcaps

I don’t get any output.

Paul

    I can't find where setcaps is documented. configuration files for brltty are under /etc/brltty.

I think in order to execute 'brltty -setcaps' you would have to kill the running instance of brltty first, and then invoke it mannually. To do that on Ubuntu, you would have to put 'sudo' in front of the commands. This probably isn't really what you want, it would be better to set something in a configuration file.

Hello all,

I have found that some files are missing on Ubuntu 23.04 (BRLTTY 6.5), and as such I can’t use the command brltty-setcaps to grant permission for cap_sys_admin, cap_sys_tty_config, cap_mknod. This explains why I can’t use the braille keyboard to input.

Can someone with more experience than me check the build with the .deb file as I had this issue with Debian as well.

How would I go about finding the missing files on my system? I can’t seem to access /bin/brltty to see if the setcaps file is there.

I hope some can assist.

Paul
