Could you please still verify, though, if the latest development code has resolved the xsel.h not found issue? That'd require building without --disable-x.

As Sébastien has observed, we'd sure like BrlAPI to work on OSX.

brltty-term doesn't require BrlAPI, though. What it requires is that the em (Terminal Emulator) screen driver is built. What does the SCREEN_DRIVER_CODES line in your config.mk say?
